Most on-board displays tell you whether the battery is full or not. They don't tell you how much is really left and how long it will last. The SmartShunt counts every ampere that goes in and out, and calculates the true state of charge from that.

The shunt sits on the negative terminal of the battery, no further wiring is needed. On your phone, you can see the voltage, current, ampere-hours consumed, the state of charge in percent, and the remaining runtime in the VictronConnect App. There is no dedicated display; your phone is the display.

Practically, this means: in the evening, you can see if the night with heating and refrigerator is still possible, and while driving, you can see how much is actually being recharged.

The SmartShunt is the battery monitor without its own display. If you want a display on the furniture, opt for the BMV-712. The SmartShunt also does not have a programmable relay and no audible alarm.
